Laberinto del Fauno

ah.
the beauty. i did indeed see Pan's Labyrinth last wednesday. However, I have purposely delayed writing my review until now. I knew it was a fantastic movie, and wasn't completely in-your-face, so I needed some time to dwell. It's hard to not like 6 oscar nominations taint your review also, and I think I did that.
It's just a cool, smart, symbolic movie. I really didn't expect the facist war stuff to come into play that much, and I did think it would be more of a fantasy movie. I wasn't disappointed. I was quite pleased at the parallels in the movie, and the sheer hotness. After some thought, it was everything I wanted.

here's a movie that was supposed to come out in September, and to be honest, I forgot about. I was really excited to see the movie, even though I felt that the trailer gave away the whole story.
There was a lot of hype surrounding Children of Men, just from people talking to me. They'd say it was fucked up, crazy and just too much.
I found none of that to be true. I saw some really amazing writing, nice cinematography and a very smart movie. It wasn't really crazy, but it was really good. And give it up for Clive Owen, he rules, and you all know this.

Good year. I saw 55 movies in theatres this year, only two more than last year, but still, that's more than a movie a week. Is that ok, superfriends? I believe..that it is quite, all right. I think the overall quality of movies this year was pretty terrible. There are like 5 movies that went right to the bottom 100 of all time list when they opened, but the good ones..were really good.
VERY hard top 10 this year. I basically went through 18 movies to make up my top 10...and they were all really close.
one note before i dip in - I'm going to count Munich because it came out dec 23, 2005, and i saw it in 2006.

10 - The Last Kiss
9 - Thank You For Smoking
8 - Superman Returns
7 - Munich
6 - The Illusionist
5 - Stranger Than Fiction
4 - V for Vendetta
3 - Casino Royale
2 - The Prestige
1 - The Departed

honourable mention - jackass 2, the fountain, lucky number slevin

only animated movie i really liked (and considered for my top 10) - hoodwinked

i got 57 dvd's this year, bringing my grand total to 204 dvd's i own...including tv dvd's.

good year.
