bigg dane

The Hot - It was kinda funny...I guess...and Dane Cook is always entertaining.

The Not - Jason Biggs is the worst actor on the planet. Though, there were some moments (well, only one) that he and Dane Cook actually complimented each other. Also, not enough Alec Baldwin. It seemed as though the movie just relied on obscenities and the hilarity of the situations for laughs.

Final Shot - My Best Friend's Girl - 2/5

loser alien

The Hot - It was very original and quite funny. Simon Pegg is good. He needs more credit on this side of the border. It should be a big deal when his movies get released..because they are all really funny...especially since this movie was PACKED with celebrities. It was really cool. It seemed like it may have been really true, in a funny sort of way. It's kinda like this is how Simon Pegg got to where he is. Jeff Bridges was a dominator.

The Not - The love story was very obvious and cliche...and a lot of the movie was focused on that.

Final Shot - How to Lose Friends and Alienate People - 3/5

Wrasslin'

The Hot - Big Sexy Mickey Rourke - Big Sexy Marisa Tomei, man, she was hot. There was a lot of nudity, that was a good surprise. haha, oky, seriously this movie was so good. So passionate and emotional. It was captivating as hell.

The Not - Nothing. My only gripe was not with the movie, so, there's nothing wrong with this movie, it's funny, honest, emotional and everyone should love it.

Final Shot - The Wrester - 5/5

me love ping pong long time

The Hot - This was really original. It wasn't just a stupid comedy with dumb jokes that was expected. I mean, I kinda thought it would be like Scary Movie or something, but it was hilarious and had a lot of original jokes and the characters were really funny too. There was some good family stuff in here, and wasn't just a movie for Asians...it was just funny.

The Not - Hmm, it was a litttttle predictable and I said it was original in terms of the jokes, but having the white guys there for an ultimate showdown, with them trying to steal the students was a little predictable

Final Shot - Ping Pong Playa - 3.5/5

mr big, mr strong, mr fast

The Hot - Just a create and eye-opening documentary. It was very unbiased, showed a lot of different viewpoints from a lot of different people. I really like how they talked to athletes, actors and even the people who did the photographs for before and after pictures and stuff. Just really good, and not objective. It was pretty pretty good. It was very emotional to incorporate the family into it, and you could see how much steroid use affected everyone in good and bad ways. It was greeeeat

The Not - Nothing really.

Final Shot - Bigger, Stronger, Faster - 5/5

view of lake

The Hot - I'm not sure... It was original I guess, and really dark.

The Not - Well, the movie was just creepy...I don't know who thought of this movie..or like..what happens. The racism..strange cop stuff...and whatever... Samuel L. Jackson was weird and creepy as baaaallllllls. I dunno, Just a dumb-ass movie.

Final Shot - Lakeview Terrace - 0.5/5

best of '08

Well, I definitely tried to see more movies this year, I think that worked.
I almost made a change with the blog this year -- instead of just posting reviews for movies I'd see in theatres, I just started reviewing every movie I watched.
So, let's be clear here -- my best of '08 is just for movies released in theatres in the 2008 calendar year.
That makes it 40 movies that I saw.

I slacked a lot, especially this past month, because I cranked all 5.5 seasons of One Tree Hill, and I watched a lot more TV.
Sadly, I didn't get to see The Wrestler, Benji Button or Valkyrie...I wish I watched a lot more movies, like Hellboy 2, Eagle Eye, Frost/Nixon, Slumdog Millionaire, Gran Torino, Wall-E -- the worst thing is that I have most of these movies downloaded. But, I didn't see them, thus I can't count them.
This list might be dominated by comedie and superhero movies. Anyway, let's let it rock.

10 - Tropic Thunder
9 - Definitely, Maybe
8 - Burn After Reading
7 - In Bruges
6 - Iron Man
5 - The Incredible Hulk
4 - Taken
3 - Forgetting Sarah Marshall
2 - Zack and Miri Make a Porno
1 - The Dark Knight

Honourable Mention: Role Models, Twilight, Wanted, Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Ok, so coming in at #4 is Taken. It only comes out in US/Canada in January 09, but it was released before that in other parts of the world, and Liam Neeson rips it up. It's like the next Bourne, but way cooler. Taken is awesome. Everyone needs to see it.

So, I think the most underrated movies of the year were In Bruges and The Incredible Hulk. I really really liked both of these movies. I liked In Bruges for it's simplicity, humour and good mix of action. I liked The Incredible Hulk because Ed Norton was amazing and there was a lot of emotional struggle in the movie.

I usually give how many dvd's I own at the end of the year -- but after moving out, and being in Calgary -- I became a pirate. So, from last year where I had 274 dvd's, this year I have 278. hahaha, that's still a lot. But I spent a lot of money on dvd's.

I promise that if I saw The Wrestler and Gran Torino this year, They would be in my top 10, because they're killers.
Also, The Spirit definitely disappointed me.

Have a good year. I'm definitely psyched for Watchmen. That could be my number 1 in best of '09. We'll see!

Happy new year, ballers!
