1.1.09

best of '08

Well, I definitely tried to see more movies this year, I think that worked.
I almost made a change with the blog this year -- instead of just posting reviews for movies I'd see in theatres, I just started reviewing every movie I watched.
So, let's be clear here -- my best of '08 is just for movies released in theatres in the 2008 calendar year.
That makes it 40 movies that I saw.

I slacked a lot, especially this past month, because I cranked all 5.5 seasons of One Tree Hill, and I watched a lot more TV.
Sadly, I didn't get to see The Wrestler, Benji Button or Valkyrie...I wish I watched a lot more movies, like Hellboy 2, Eagle Eye, Frost/Nixon, Slumdog Millionaire, Gran Torino, Wall-E -- the worst thing is that I have most of these movies downloaded. But, I didn't see them, thus I can't count them.
This list might be dominated by comedie and superhero movies. Anyway, let's let it rock.

10 - Tropic Thunder
9 - Definitely, Maybe
8 - Burn After Reading
7 - In Bruges
6 - Iron Man
5 - The Incredible Hulk
4 - Taken
3 - Forgetting Sarah Marshall
2 - Zack and Miri Make a Porno
1 - The Dark Knight

Honourable Mention: Role Models, Twilight, Wanted, Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Ok, so coming in at #4 is Taken. It only comes out in US/Canada in January 09, but it was released before that in other parts of the world, and Liam Neeson rips it up. It's like the next Bourne, but way cooler. Taken is awesome. Everyone needs to see it.

So, I think the most underrated movies of the year were In Bruges and The Incredible Hulk. I really really liked both of these movies. I liked In Bruges for it's simplicity, humour and good mix of action. I liked The Incredible Hulk because Ed Norton was amazing and there was a lot of emotional struggle in the movie.

I usually give how many dvd's I own at the end of the year -- but after moving out, and being in Calgary -- I became a pirate. So, from last year where I had 274 dvd's, this year I have 278. hahaha, that's still a lot. But I spent a lot of money on dvd's.

I promise that if I saw The Wrestler and Gran Torino this year, They would be in my top 10, because they're killers.
Also, The Spirit definitely disappointed me.

Have a good year. I'm definitely psyched for Watchmen. That could be my number 1 in best of '09. We'll see!

Happy new year, ballers!
