wii are marshall

movies have been far in the back of my mind as of late. You know, it's the holiday season..and I did get a Wii. Movies will be pushed to the back of my mind. At least in theatres. As you may or may not have known, I only review movies I see in theatres. I may put a stop to that, and just do movies released in the year - which makes sense. Unless, you're a stone-cold pimp like me, and make out with whoever is in sight when you watch dvd's.
All right. On to the review.

Great story. Decent movie. It was just lacking a lot of emotion, I thought. Matthew Fox was the maaaad acts. He was really good. It wasn't anything really special, and I think McG - terrible director- was hoping that the story of the Marshall plane crash would make a mediocre movie, a better one. No cheap stuff, McG. I'm a little dissappointed.

We Are Marshall - 2/5

holla-day

what started out as a shitty, slow, sappy and uninteresting 30 minutes became an emotional snowball rolling down a semi-steep hill. The Holiday was clearly written and directed by a girl, with a lot of weird "girl humour", like the unnecessary scene of Cam'ron D (without Destiny), singing Mr. Brightside. Sure, I do it everyday, but does that warrant showing 30 seconds of it in a movie? No. Just a lot of weird happy, jubilant moments like that seemed weird to me, and very pointless.
The acting was super amazing. You can't call Kate Winslet a bad actress if her character is a badly written one.
Jude Law was very impressive. We all know that I hate Jude Law...and The Aviator.
For many a tear swelling moments, some nice hair, Cameron's Hot Body, and a hot score by ya boi Hans;

The Holiday - 3/5

Jack Black is really starting to grow on me. We're forming a spore. lolz.

my boyfriend's back

My boyfriend, of course, being Daniel Craig. I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon, because I've been on it for about a year. I knew he'd rip, because he's a dope actor. Let's back-track. Obviously, everyone loves Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, myself included. Because of my love for these two movies, I bought Layer Cake, which was directed by the producer of Snatch and Lock, Stock. Daniel Craig blew my balls off in Layer Cake. Then I saw him in Munich, and yeah, I luvz him.

Another note would be that I hate Bond movies. They're so gadget-y and too classy, that I feel like I could only enjoy them if I were a 60 year old British prude watching the movie in the theatre with a cup of tea (and maybe a crumpet or two).

What I loved about Casino Royale was that it was gritty. It was tough and not polished, but still very classy because Bond is still Bond, I suppose. I thought it was ill how the movie takes place when he just started off as a "00," and was such a bad-ass move.
Everything that you wanted to happen did, and the 'twists' were also really good.
At the end, I thought that it was getting too sappy, but that was quickly fixed at the end in a fashion that only an asshole like myself can appreciate.
"The job is done. The bitch is dead." <-- Spoiler? Or my life?

I really hold back on giving 5/5's. Maybe I shouldn't hesitate because movies get 4 stars or 2 thumbs up all the time. Hmm. I've only given Superman a 5/5, and maybe I should compare? My marking system may be flawed with emotion. It will all come around when I do my top 10 of 2006.

Casino Royale - 5/5

(Also, when I make my 'best of' for the year, I usually make a list of about 50 movies that I want to see in the coming year..and have my 'most hyped' movies, that I'm most excited to see. This year they were Superman, Stranger than Fiction and Pan's Labyrinth. There will be one next year; 300. I may already call this movie, my favorite movie ever...to date.)

pre-fontaine

so, I really wanted to see Babel, but it's no longer playing in Nova Scotia. Poo.
The Fountain was unveiled to my hopeful eyes, instead. First of all...this could be the smartest movie of the year..and the best. It's crazy. I forgot that it took place in 3 different parts of the...universe?..well, time I guess. 1500, 2500 and the present. I totally forgot this while I was watching the movie. But it was still horribly captivating, though I did get lost at the end. Some people may think it was stupid, but it's a glorious love story, that you need to see numerous times. oh baby, oh baby, oh.

To be honest, this movie probably deserves 4.5, but it's almost..ahead of it's time? But honestly, what do you expect from the same director and writer of Pi and Requiem for a Dream. Oh, I do need to add Pi to my Christmas wish list.
Bravo to Hugh Jackman. If I were to jack a man, it would be you..Hugh.

The Fountain - 4/5

i should be called 'fellatious d'

with very low hopes, and not a big Jack Black fan, I was not expecting to be impressed, or really laugh at all. But who was I trying to kid? I still love fart jokes, even though I claim to hate stupid humour. Parts of it were funny sure, but still a pretty crappy movie. Still..it's funny.
Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny - 2/5

I should mention that the top 10 this year is shaping up to be a hell of a show. if you just look at the last 5 movies, 3 of them are all >=4. That's the mad movies. I'm only two movies away from equaling my in-theatre movie total from last year.
on the list is;
- Borat
- Babel
- Bobby
- Casino Royale
- The Fountain

Realisitcally, I'll probably only see two of those. But still to come out this month are; We Are Marshall, Apacalypto, The Holiday, Blood Diamond, The Pursuit of Happiness, Eragon, Rocky, The Good Shepherd, Children of Men and PAN'S LABYRINTH! I'm so pumped for Pan's Labyrinth. It's actually been on my 'hype list' for a year. It's a christmas present all in itself.
